The Shibori Tie-Dye Natural Dye Product Design Project for the Community

Under the collaborative initiative to promote health and wellness in Pathum Thani Province, organized in partnership with the Lak Hok Community Development Center and the Rangsit University Research Institute, the event took place at the Pattana Gallery on August 20, 2024. The opening ceremony was presided over by Asst. Prof. Dr. Sirada Vaiyavatjamai, Dean of the College of Design, alongside members of the Lak Hok Community Women’s Association, faculty members, and students from the College of Design.

The showcased works were created by 30 women from the Lak Hok community who participated in a practical workshop held on June 18, 2024, at the Fashion Design Program, College of Design. The workshop was led by Lecturer Lalita Simantrar, accompanied by faculty members from the Fashion Design Program. The participants were educated on the tools and materials for tie-dyeing, the process of extracting natural dyes from three plants: Caesalpinia sappan for red, butterfly pea for blue, and marigold for yellow, as well as the techniques of creating Shibori patterns. The workshop also included guidance on promoting and marketing tie-dye products.

This project exemplifies the synergy between design education, community engagement, and sustainable practices.
