Communication design isn’t just about teaching how to draw; we teach you how to creatively design communication.
The Communication Design program at the College of Design offers courses related to brand communication and brand creation, covering how to think about and communicate a brand effectively to meet its objectives. Students learn how to make their target audience understand and engage with their brand communication.
Gift – Sasiwimon Luerakolarn, a fourth-year Communication Design student at Rangsit University, created the brand “Humate,” which focuses on developing technology to support the self-care of elderly individuals. This brand aims to enhance the quality of life for the elderly through thoughtful design as part of the Branding Communication Design course. The assignment required students to come up with a product or service they were interested in and develop it into a brand. The concept of “Humate” focuses on technology that helps seniors care for themselves with more quality and confidence in living their lives. The modern and caring design reflects the essence of the Communication Design program, which teaches students to combine information and ideas into something visual. Brand design involves communicating a brand’s goals, information, and story to the target audience through CI, advertising, and using color, fonts, shapes, and forms, all of which play a significant role in communication.
Through this project, students gained a deeper understanding of communication, including how fonts, colors, and even minor images influence perception. This allowed them to grasp the process of thinking and analyzing how to create and communicate a brand that their target audience can understand, recognize, and remember. Building a brand requires multiple skills, and students also learned additional skills like AI generation, retouching images, and using mockups. They explored new design software, and though some experiments succeeded and others didn’t, they gained valuable experience.
The Communication Design program covers a wide range of subjects, including illustration, graphics, UX/UI, CI, advertising, branding, and design thinking. All of these skills can be applied in various careers, and if a student chooses a specific path, the knowledge gained from other courses can also be applied.
Title – Atcharinya Sunthornchatapong, a fourth-year Communication Design student at Rangsit University, designed a self-service spa brand called “COSMO” for an assignment to create a unique brand. This brand incorporates technology to help meet the needs of people today, who seek both relaxation and privacy. The concept involved reducing human labor by using machines while still meeting the target audience’s needs. The Branding Communication Design course, which covers brand communication design, thinking, planning, and business communication tools, helped guide this project. The concept began with researching relevant information, defining the story and target audience, and selecting a suitable style. The chosen identity for the brand was modern and minimalist, making it memorable.
The Communication Design program emphasizes visual design for communication. This project helped students develop brand recognition by applying foundational knowledge from earlier courses, such as Corporate Identity Design, Brand & Storytelling, Design Thinking, and others. The branding design project enabled them to understand the design process and brand creation more comprehensively, highlighting the deeper meaning and value of building a brand.
They also applied additional skills from their studies, such as retouching images and using AI-generated content. Creating a fictional brand made finding the right images challenging, so retouching and other techniques were essential for completing the project.
Finally, the Communication Design program offers flexibility in career paths, allowing students to pursue various creative, advertising, graphic design, UX/UI, or brand creation careers. The curriculum is comprehensive, providing a strong foundation and advanced skills, enabling students to think critically, plan, and produce real-world design work.
